This document is structured in two parts:
- Part A: Selling to Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd
- Part B: Buying from Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd
All transactions are subject to English law, and any disputes shall fall under the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. You must be at least 18 years of age to engage in any transaction with us.
Part A: Selling to Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd
1. Valuations and Quotations
Quotations provided online or verbally are indicative only and are subject to the results of in-house testing and verification. Final payment will be based on confirmed weight, purity, and live market prices at the time of receipt.
If you request a formal quotation at the time of submitting your claim form, we will not process payment until you have confirmed you are happy with our valuation.
2. Testing Procedure
We specialise in purchasing scrap gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. To assess value accurately, we may need to:
- Remove stones from jewellery settings (which can occasionally result in breakage)
- Detach non-precious elements such as watch movements, brooch pins, or bracelet wires
- Cut, file, or otherwise alter your item to verify its precious metal content
Testing is conducted using XRF (X-ray fluorescence) technology, which provides a high level of accuracy far beyond traditional acid testing methods.
Please be aware that we are unable to reverse any modifications made during the valuation process should you later decide not to proceed with the sale.
3. Shipping and Packaging
You are responsible for ensuring your items are packaged securely and appropriately insured. We strongly recommend using Royal Mail Special Delivery, which provides insurance up to £2,500. We do not advise using Royal Mail Signed For, as this service offers only minimal cover.
Items should be packaged inside a padded envelope (such as a Jiffy bag) and placed within a Royal Mail silver Special Delivery envelope.
Packages requiring a signature are inspected for signs of tampering or damage before acceptance. If a parcel appears compromised, it will be refused and returned to sender. If we can identify you from the shipping details, we will contact you directly.
Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd cannot be held liable for any loss or damage during transit to or from our premises.
4. Return of Items
If you choose not to accept our offer, we will return your items free of charge (UK customers only) via Royal Mail Special Delivery, insured for their appropriate value.
For non-precious items you request to be returned (such as removed stones or base metal components), there is a small £3.00 handling charge. These will be sent via standard first or second class post. If you wish to insure or track the return of these items, please request a quote.
International customers will be responsible for the cost of any returns.
5. Payment and Verification
Most items are processed on the same day they arrive, although more complex items (e.g. dental scrap, lemels, or heavily set jewellery) may take longer due to the nature of testing or melting required.
Payments are made using your chosen method: bank transfer, cash, or PayPal. Once the valuation is confirmed. Please note:
- If you opt for payment via PayPal, we are not responsible for any transaction fees levied.
- All payments are inclusive of VAT. If you require a VAT invoice, please let us know.
6. Valuation Discrepancies
If your stated valuation (based on your estimate of weight and purity) differs from our confirmed valuation by less than 10%, we will proceed with payment without further contact.
If the difference exceeds 10% (either higher or lower), we will seek your authorisation before making payment.
7. Cooling-Off Period
After receiving notification of payment, you have 24 hours to change your mind. If you do so, you must inform us in writing (email is acceptable), and return the payment within 3 days. Once received, we will return your items by insured delivery at no cost to you.
8. Identification and Compliance
To comply with anti-money laundering regulations, we may request additional identification, particularly for customers whose transactions exceed £8,000 over a 12-month rolling period. Proof of identity and address may be required.
9. Charitable Donations
If you wish to donate the proceeds from your precious metal to a charity of your choice, we are happy to help.
- Indicate your chosen charity on the claim form
- Send your items to us
- We'll value them and issue a cheque, payable to your charity and send it to you
This service is offered free of charge.
Part B: Buying from Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd
1. Pricing and Payment
Prices displayed on our website reflect live market rates and are fixed at the point your order is placed, for orders under £75,000. These rates are derived from the current trading value of precious metals and may fluctuate. Multiple orders placed in close succession may be priced differently depending on market conditions at the time of processing.
We reserve the right to cancel any order, including after payment has been received. If we cancel, a full refund will be issued—unless the cancellation is due to your failure to provide required identification (see Sections 5 and 6), in which case cancellation charges may apply.
Some orders may require a non-refundable deposit. For orders above £75,000, whether placed during or outside business hours (Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm), we will confirm pricing by email. Payment is requested within 48 hours of confirmation.
Payment methods include debit card (up to £40,000, ID may be required) and bank transfer. We do not accept pre-paid cards. Payments must be made from an account in your own name; we cannot accept payments from multiple individuals for a single order.
2. Delivery
All deliveries must be sent to the cardholder's billing address. We cannot ship to alternative addresses when payment is made by card. Goods are dispatched after payment verification, and we rely on you to ensure safe receipt at the delivery address.
We do not deliver to PO Boxes. We are not liable for delays caused by courier services. Once delivery is confirmed and signed for at your address, ownership and risk pass to you.
In the event of a non-delivery, a full refund or replacement will be provided. However, we are not liable for any loss arising from fluctuations in metal prices during that time.
If your order includes items on pre-order, we will dispatch the full order once all products are available. We do not offer part-shipping.
You will receive a dispatch email with tracking details. If your parcel does not arrive within the expected timeframe, you must inform us within 14 days of dispatch. Claims made after this time cannot be accepted.
All parcels are packed under camera. If your parcel is received damaged or items are missing, you must report this to us within 24 hours and provide supporting photographs. Claims outside this period cannot be accepted.
We reserve the right to recover costs (including legal fees) should a false claim for non-delivery or a chargeback be submitted, despite courier confirmation of successful delivery.
3. Placing an Order
Orders can be placed via our website or over the phone. Due to the nature of precious metals pricing, all orders are considered final and cannot be cancelled under distance selling regulations. Payment in full is required.
4. In-Store Collection
Orders may be collected from our premises once full payment has been received and we have confirmed that your goods are ready. You must present identification and your invoice upon collection. We cannot release goods to third parties.
No stock is kept on site; only pre-arranged collections are possible. Please see our FAQ section for more information.
5. Cancellations and Refunds
The right to cancel under the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 does not apply to our products, which are subject to market fluctuations.
If you cancel an order after confirmation, a charge of 2.5% of the order total will apply, along with any losses incurred from changes in the metal price. This applies to stock items, pre-orders, and special orders.
Failure to provide required ID will be treated as cancellation and subject to the same fees.
Where goods are found to be defective or incorrectly supplied, we will offer a refund or exchange. Issues must be reported within 48 hours of delivery. Items must be returned in the condition received.
We do not accept returns of bullion coins, proof or pre-owned coins, or coins showing milk spots unless the product is materially defective or the stated metal content is incorrect. Packaging wear is not considered grounds for return.
We reserve the right to cancel any order at our discretion and provide a refund.
6. Identification and Fraud Prevention
We may request proof of identity and address to meet legal and security obligations. This may apply to any transaction, regardless of value. We cannot accept mobile phone bills as proof of address.
Transactions over £5,000 (or cumulative sales over £8,000 in a calendar year) require valid photo ID, and may require a recent utility bill. This applies regardless of payment method and may also be requested if multiple orders exceed thresholds within a short time.
We may use your data to conduct fraud prevention checks. This may include soft searches with credit reference agencies. For high-value transactions, proof of source of funds may be requested. All information is handled under the Data Protection Act 2018.
We reserve the right to assist authorities in identifying and reporting suspected financial crime related to the trade or transport of precious metals.
7. Our Responsibility
We aim to provide our services with reasonable care and within a reasonable timeframe. However, we do not offer investment advice and cannot guarantee any future performance or valuation.
Once goods are delivered and signed for, ownership passes to you and our liability ends.
8. Legal Interpretation
All offers to sell or buy may be accepted or declined at our discretion. Prices shown are indicative and not binding unless confirmed in writing by us. Product availability and prices are subject to change without notice.
We do not verify the authenticity of products sold through third parties, even if claimed to be sourced from us. Only products purchased directly from Gold-Traders (UK) Ltd are guaranteed by us.
9. Force Majeure
We will not be liable for delays or failure to perform resulting from events outside our control, including but not limited to natural disasters, acts of war or terrorism, civil unrest, postal strikes, or failures of transport, internet, or telecommunications systems.
During such periods, our obligations are suspended and will resume as soon as reasonably possible. We will make reasonable efforts to minimise disruption and resume normal service.
